Sant’Antonio Abate Church

Sant’Antonio Abate Church

The Church of Sant’Antonio Abate in Fiumenero was consecrated on 4th July 1759, but its origins are much more distant and date back to at least 1520 if not even 1400 as indicated in old documents.

The current structure, the third in order of construction, contains several artistic works inside. Of particular interest is the original painting by Domenico Carpinoni (1566-1658) translated from the nearby church of San Rocco which represents San Sebastiano and San Rocco, in addition to the canvas of the SS. Trinity, the Madonna, the purging souls and the saints Lucia, Lorenzo and Antonio Abate, always attributed to the same.

Behind the main altar there are three paintings by an unknown author of the ‘700 including the Redeemer who appears in S. Antonio Abate, while above the entrance we can admire a beautiful deposition of mannerist style Saints of the’ 600. Altars and statues of exquisite workmanship from the Fantoni workshop contribute to enrich the church together with a Bossi organ from the late 1700s.
